Anthroposophic Medicine Conference in Athens with Dr. med. Marion Debus and Dr. med. Karin Michael

A Review from Artemis Chanioti

Dear colleagues and friends,

We would like to share with you a brief report from the Anthroposophic Medicine Conference that took place in Athens on March 14–15, organized by the Institute of Anthroposophic Medicine in Greece.
The conference had the title “A new understanding of children's development and health” and brought together physicians, therapists, educators, parents and friends interested in a deeper understanding of health and human development from an anthroposophic perspective. The participation exceeded our expectations and created a lively and engaged atmosphere throughout the two days. The event was hosted at the Waldorf School Trianemi, following the initiative of the Institute, whose warm hospitality offered an ideal setting for such a meeting.

The presence of Dr. Karin Michael and Dr. Marion Debus, leaders of the Medical Section at the Goetheanum, provided a decisive impulse to the conference’s momentum. Through their lectures they opened a profound perspective on child development, health and the Anthroposophic understanding of the human being. Their contribution was deeply appreciated and helped create a meaningful connection between the work developing in Greece and the broader international community of Anthroposophic Medicine.

For many participants this conference represented their first substantial encounter with Anthroposophic Medicine. The response afterwards has been remarkably positive, and the level of interest expressed by physicians, educators and parents indicates that a new impulse for this work is gradually emerging in Greece. In this sense, we experience that a field for Anthroposophic Medicine is beginning to take shape in Southern Europe, with Greece as one of the places where this development is currently unfolding.

The Institute of Anthroposophic Medicine in Greece continues to work toward supporting the development of Anthroposophic Medicine in the country through educational initiatives, conferences and collaboration with international colleagues and institutions.

Encounters such as this one help strengthen the growing bridge between Greece and the international movement of Anthroposophic Medicine, particularly through the connection with the Medical Section at the Goetheanum.
Following the strong response to this meeting, the Institute is currently exploring, in collaboration with the Medical Section at the Goetheanum, the possibility of organizing a second Anthroposophic Medicine Conference in Greece in 2027, with the longer-term intention of establishing a regular annual conference in the country, alongside further educational activities to support the development of this work in the region.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all colleagues, Medical Section and institutions whose ongoing work worldwide continues to inspire and support initiatives such as this one.

Please find attached a selection of photographs from the conference.

With warm greetings from Greece,

Artemis Chanioti
